The Parry Sound Area Community Business &
Development Centre endeavoured to address the requests
and concerns of this very large business contingent; the
area’s women entrepreneurs.
In the spring of 2006 the Georgian Bay Women’s Network
was established, an Advisory Committee (comprised of a
good cross-section of area business women) was struck, a
plan of action was undertaken and a membership drive
commenced. The reaction and appreciation from the area
business women has been tremendous. Monthly meetings
were held with avid interest and participation. As
requested by the membership, the Network takes a hiatus
during the busy summer season, but the Advisory
Committee remains active assembling a schedule of
seminars and events tailored to fulfill the requirements
of area women in business.
Workshops / seminars are held each month, September
through May inclusive. These are held at optimum times
to garner maximum attendance, the timing being
alternating luncheon or evening, as women entrepreneurs
do not always have the advantage of a fill-in during the
day and some have child care issues in the evening.
Strategic seminars are held on weekends to attract as
many participants as possible. A roster of dignitaries /
presenters has been drafted and this list will expand as
demand and availability are determined. |
